About Christopher Gotterup (2019)
Chris Gotterup played MGA and Met Area events since he was young, and after a powerful 2019 season, he found his name atop the MGA Honor Roll, putting him up there with the greatest amateur players in MGA history.
Coming off a solid sophomore season at Rutgers University, Gotterup’s season got off to a slow start when he missed the cut at the Ike, an event he’d almost won in 2018. He quickly bounced back with a fourth-place finish at the New Jersey Amateur, and his season was just getting started.
At the New Jersey Open, Gotterup fired a 4-under 32 on his final nine holes to earn a three-shot victory against a stacked field. Coming off this win, just eight days later Gotterup became an MGA Champion with a victory after 3-days play at the Met Amateur at Hudson National. Earning the third seed after stroke play, Gotterup faced his former teammate Jack Wall in a 19-hole match, and eventually went on to defeat the former Met Am champion, Ryan Davis in a 7-and-5 victory.
These events launched Gotterup to the top of the points list with, with other competitors close behind. But, with his Met Open performance, finishing third-low amateur, 15th over all, Gotterup was able stay at the top for good. A final 770 points allowed Gotterup to claim the 2019 Player of the Year Award.
