About Willie MacFarlane (1933) – Winged Foot

The forty-three-year-old veteran Willie MacFarlane of the Oak Ridge Golf Club in Tuckahoe birdied the last two holes to edge American Ryder Cup player Paul Runyan by one stroke.  His 291 total was three strokes better than Bobby Jones and Al Espinosa carded during the 1929 U.S. Open at Winged Foot.  Defending champion Olin Dutra aced the 10th hole during his third-round 70, but a closing 76 left him strokes behind the winner.
