Wes Ellis (1961) – Winged Foot
About Wes Ellis (1961) – Winged Foot
Scoring was much more difficult at Winged Foot in 1961, and former Winged Foot assistant professional Wes Ellis carded a 72-hole score of 289 to recapture the Met Open title. Ellis and his closest pursuers all struggled through the final two rounds over the East Course, and Ellis ultimately won with a par 4 on the last hole despite driving into an adjacent fairway.
