Wes Ellis (1957) – Plainfield

About Wes Ellis (1957) – Plainfield

Wes Ellis led after each round to capture his first professional victory over a Plainfield course that might have been the most rugged ever played in the Met Open that was buffeted by twenty-mile-an-hour winds.  Ellis’ final score of 296 left him three shots ahead of the field.  Defending champ Doug Ford was with the Ryder Cup team and missed the championship.  This championship earned Plainfield its reputation as the “Green Monster.”
