About Peter Van Ingen (1981)

Peter Van Ingen paired an exciting Met Am victory with a consistent summer of fine golf to capture the Player of the Year title in 1981.

Van Ingen got a jump on the title with solid, early season play in the Richardson and Travis Memorials, advancing to the semi-finals in both. He also earned co-medalist honors in the 1981 U.S. Open Local Qualifying and earned a spot in the final field at the U.S. Amateur.

The highlight of his season was his victory at the Met Amateur against a strong and determined field. Eight of the players on the 1981 Honor Roll challenged Van Ingen for the title, but he came out on top.

Van Ingen finished the season with 455 points, over 100 more than second place finisher Bob Housen.
