About Marty O’Loughlin (1922) – Lido
Marty O’Loughlin, the rotund New Jersey Open title holder, won the first Met Open ever staged at the fabled Lido Country Club. His winning 72-hole score of 309 was the highest in recent years, attesting to the severe challenge of the relatively new links at Long Beach. O’Loughlin led the way after 36 and 54 holes (by three strokes), but a front nine 45 left him behind. He rallied with a back nine 38, however, to retake the lead and win the tournament.
