About Jonas Saxton (1983)
Jon Saxton had been winning MGA events since he was a junior in 1975. After his 1983 season, he took home the highest amateur achievement in the area.
Saxton had his hands full of trophies that season with victories in the Connecticut Amateur, Westchester Amateur, and the Ike. His victory in the Westchester Amateur was his third consecutive and made him the first player since 1938 (Willie Turnesa) to win three in a row.
His remaining points were awarded for a low amateur and runner-up finish in the Connecticut Open, second low amateur in the Westchester Open, qualifying on site for the Met Amateur and for sixth place in the New England Amateur.
Saxton, a graduate of the University of Virginia, finished out the season with 540 points.
