John Baldwin (1991)
About John Baldwin (1991)
In 1991, John Baldwin just edged out previous multiple-time Player of the Year George Zahringer III by 5 points to win his second consecutive coveted amateur title.
He took two big victories at the Long Island Amateur and the New York State Mid-Am. While those were his only two victories of the season, his name stayed towards the top of the leaderboards at multiple other events. He was a finalist in the Richardson Memorial, a semifinalist at the Havemeyer Memorial, and a quarterfinalist at the Travis Memorial.
Baldwin made the cut in two MGA majors, the Met Open and the Ike. He also found success beyond the Met Area. He earned the local qualifying medalist spot for the 1991 U.S. Open, and tied for seventh place at the Mid-Atlantic Amateur.
While many vied for the top spot, it was Baldwin who earned the right amount of points to do it.
