About Jerry Courville, Jr. (1999)

In one of the tightest races of the decade, Jerry Courville Jr. came from nearly 250 points behind in the final weeks of the 1999 season to overtake Greg Rohlf and claim his third Player of the Year title in five years.

Courville played solidly all year, but not spectacularly, winning only once all season. He advanced to the semi-finals of the Travis Memorial, won the Hochster Memorial and finished third in the Ike. He reached the quarter-finals at the Met Amateur and qualified on-site at the U.S. Amateur.

Still trailing behind Rohlf, Courville made a late season charge. At the U.S. Mid-Amateur, he made a magical run through two rounds of stroke play qualifying and five rounds of match play. He ultimately fell to Danny Green in the finals but he collected 300 points from his run.

Soon after, he finished fourth in the Boff Memorial and locked in his third Player of the Year award with 905 points.
