About Jerry Courville, Jr. (1995)
Jerry Courville Jr.’s 1995 season was incredible from start to finish in both the Met Area and on the national stage. Winning Player of the Year by a record margin, he finished with 1,702 points, nearly 400 higher than the record previously held by Jeff Thomas.
In the Met Area, Courville took home the prestigious Met Amateur, the New York City Amateur, and the Boff Memorial. And when he was not first, he was not far behind. He tied for second place in the Ike Championship, and took third place and Low Amateur honors at the Met Open.
His success was not limited to the local area. Courville was one of just three amateurs to make the final field at the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, and later that summer he was medalist in the U.S Amateur. He topped off his performances with a win at the U.S. Mid-Amateur and a spot on the Walker Cup Team.
Courville’s consistency from the start of the season through the end led him to his success and his first (of many) Player of the Year titles.
