Gil Nichols (1911) – Englewood

Breaking all records with an unheard-of score of 281, Gil Nichols of Wilmington, Delaware, broke a tie at 144 with Johnny McDermott after 36 holes, and finished with rounds of 71 and 66 to finish eight strokes ahead of the home course professional Jack Hobens of Englewood, who finished second.  The winner’s prize for the championship remained at $150.
