There was no slowing down for George Zahringer III in 1987, as he earned his sixth Player of the Year title, after competing in just seven events that season.
In the Met Area, Zahringer won the Hochster Memorial with a spectacular 66 at Quaker Ridge and grabbed his fifth Met Amateur title later in the season at Meadow Brook.
The rest of his Player of the Year points were earned in national competitions. He reached the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur, and advanced to the quarter finals at the U.S. Mid-Am for the second straight year.
Earlier in 1988, Zahringer completed graduate studies at Columbia University, but his schedule remained hectic with his family, his job, and golf. His commitment and determination to the sport took Zahringer through the season on top.
