About Arthur E. Lynch (1988)

Born in Brooklyn in 1906, Arthur Lynch was a trusted and devoted volunteer committeeman for over thirty years. Possessed with excellent playing skills since childhood, as well as a great love of the game, he never missed an opportunity to give something back to golf.

Lynch’s formal involvement with amateur golf began at his club, Rockaway River, in Denville N.J. At the club, he served on virtually every committee, in addition to holding the office of vice president and serving four terms as president. He joined the New Jersey State Golf Association in 1973 as a member of the Tournament Committee and acted as Committee chair from 1982-1987. He was also an ardent worker for the NJSGA Caddie Scholarship Fund and served on their Executive Committee.

Equally unselfish was Lynch’s work with the MGA. He served on the Tournament Committee beginning in 1969 and was involved with the Met Junior, which was held at his home club (Rockaway River) multiple times. In his service to golf, Lynch devoted hundreds of hours each season to volunteering.

Throughout his business career – as an employee of the Spaulding Co. and later a senior buyer for Sears Roebuck – Arthur Lynch had an opportunity to meet many of the game’s top players and play on many courses throughout the world. Yet, by his own account, his most fulfilling time was spent serving golf in his backyard.
