About Jimmy Hines (1937) – Forest Hill
Sam Snead shot rounds of 68 and 65 to take an almost insurmountable lead, but then a deluge flooded the Forest Hill Field Club’s course and wiped out his 65. Snead couldn’t maintain that kind of pace, and shot his worst round of the tournament in the final round, opening the doors for Hempstead-born Jimmy Hines, who finished with two 70’s to edge Henry Picard, who suffered two three-putt greens near the end of the round. Hines’ total of 279 fell one stroke short of the Met Open record.
