About Mike Miller (2012)
Playing a more rigorous schedule filled with national and international tournaments didn’t stop Mike Miller from maintaining his stranglehold on Met Area golf. The then 20-year-old had a stellar 2012 season, winning the Player of the Year title for the second consecutive year.
Miller began his 2012 campaign down in Florida among the nation’s best amateurs at the Terra Cotta Invitational where he tied for second place. Later he travelled to Europe and tried his hand in links golf where finished tied for fourth in two prestigious amateur championships; the Lytham Trophy and the Irish Amateur.
He earned his first Player of the Year points in early June at U.S. Open Local Qualifying, where he finished as co-medalist. Shortly after, he finished second in the NYC Amateur.
Miller continued his stellar run winning the WGA Amateur and then finishing second at the Sunnehanna Invitational in Pennsylvania, one of the most acclaimed national tournaments on the summer circuit. Back in the Met area, he collected a fourth-place finish at both the Ike and the Westchester Open.
Continuing to excel into the later end of the season, Miller gained points at both the U.S Amateur, where he qualified for match play and won his first-round match, and at the Met Open, with a 10th place, third low amateur finish.
Topping off his season, Miller captured the individual portion of the USGA Men’s State Team Championship, and won the Boff Invitational, pulling away from season long rival Ryan McCormick and finishing with a total of 1,330 points.
Miller’s point total of 1,330 is the most since Jerry Courville Jr. finished with 1,367 in 1997 and lead Miller to be the first back-to-back Player of the Year since Courville Jr. in 2002/2003.
Miller has since turned pro and plays on the Korn Ferry Tour.
