About Gerald T. Mahoney (2001)
Gerald “Jerry” Mahoney’s life was devoted to service of all kinds, not just in the game of golf. The lifelong Yonkers resident and World War II veteran dedicated much of his time and work to better the game. He was a true MGA ambassador of golf and known to many as “Mr. Golf.”
Mahoney’s early experience with golf came at the now defunct Hudson River Club in Yonkers, where he was club champion and held the course record. He came to the MGA as a volunteer with the Tournament Committee, and joined full-time three years later when he served as Executive Director for one year, and then as Director of Golf Programs for nearly 20 years.
One of Mahoney’s greatest contribution to the MGA came in his role as liaison with corporate sponsor MetLife. His tireless attention to all aspects of this important relationship helped to forge one of the longest running and most successful corporate sponsorships in golf.
Jerry Mahoney was known and loved by many in the Met Area. He truly represented the MGA and golf beautifully.
